Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ τίκτειν αὐτὴν ὁ εἷς προεξήνεγκεν τὴν χεῖρα· λαβοῦσα δὲ ἡ μαῖα ἔδησεν ἐπὶ τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ κόκκινον λέγουσα· Οὗτος ἐξελεύσεται πρότερος.
Then it came to pass when she was giving birth, one (of them) put out the hand; then taking it, the midwife tied a scarlet (thread) on his hand, saying, “This one will come out first.”
ויהי בלדתה ויתן־יד ותקח המילדת ותקשׁר על־ידו שׁני לאמר זה יצא ראשׁנה׃
