Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Kύριος ὁ Θεός· Οὐχ οὕτως· πᾶς ὁ ἀποκτείνας Κάιν ἑπτὰ ἐκδικούμενα παραλύσει. καὶ ἔθετο Kύριος ὁ Θεὸς σημεῖον τῷ Κάιν τοῦ μὴ ἀνελεῖν αὐτὸν πάντα τὸν εὑρίσκοντα αὐτόν.
And the LORD God said to him, “It shall not be so; anyone who kills Kain shall suffer sevenfold vengeance.” And the LORD God placed a sign on Kain so that he will not be killed by anyone who found him.
ויאמר לו יהוה לכן כל־הרג קין שׁבעתים יקם וישׂם יהוה לקין אות לבלתי הכות־אתו כל־מצאו׃
* Οὐχ οὕτως = לא כן ; Masoretic Text and Samaritan = לכן. Peshitta (ܠܐ ܗܟܢܐ) supports LXX.
