Ἔλαβεν δὲ ἑαυτῷ Ἰακὼβ ῥάβδον στυρακίνην χλωρὰν καὶ καρυίνην καὶ πλατάνου, καὶ ἐλέπισεν αὐτὰς Ἰακὼβ λεπίσματα λευκὰ, περισύρων τὸ χλωρόν· ἐφαίνετο δὲ ἐπὶ ταῖς ῥάβδοις τὸ λευκόν ὃ ἐλέπισεν ποικίλον.
Then Ιaκob took to himself green rods of styrax tree and walnut and plane tree; and Ιaκob peeled white (stripes) in them; and as he tore off the green (part of the rod), then appeared on the rods the white (stripe) which he peeled alternately.
ויקח־לו יעקב מקל לבנה לח ולוז וערמון ויפצל בהן פצלות לבנות מחשׂף הלבן אשׁר על־המקלות׃
